NBC Universal’s Coverage of Sochi Winter Olympic Games

Dozens of channels share the parent company NBC Universal, one of DISH Network’s largest and most prominent entertainment partners. Although NBC and Universal started as a separate news channel and movie production company, they kept up with modern times and have truly transformed into a multimedia empire, with its networks airing shows and movies in almost every imaginable genre.
Thanks to NBC Universal’s exclusive Olympic Games contract, the whole country can cheer on Team USA throughout the 2014 Winter Olympics. For the fourteenth time in a row, they will broadcast the Olympic Games straight from its host city, giving Americans a front-row seat to the action in faraway Sochi, Russia. NBC Sports (NBCSN) will offer live coverage and commentary, while NBC airs morning-after interviews with medalists, live morning and afternoon coverage of specific events, and to make up for the time difference, hosted, primetime recordings of main events that happened earlier in the day. Additional hosted coverage is even available through Gold Zone, which allows authenticated subscribers to stream events online or through the NBC Sports Live Extra mobile App.
News buffs have plenty to pick from, too. MSNBC offers breaking news and commentary with a primary focus on current events and politics, including hit opinion programs The Rachel Maddow Show, Morning Joe, and Hardball with Chris Matthews. CNBC covers business-related news and up-to-date information about both national and global financial markets, with their largest audiences tuning into Mad Money and The Suze Orman Show.
NBC Universal’s offerings aren’t limited to off-shoots in the NBC family. They also own mainstream channels Syfy, E!, Bravo, USA Network, Oxygen, Telemundo and its youthful counterpart Mun2, film-only Universal HD, and The Weather Channel. Supporting the growing belief that cable TV now offers today’s most unique and acclaimed entertainment content, all of these channels now boast original series in addition to news and syndicated re-runs. Fan favorites currently airing exclusively on NBC Universal channels include Psych, Royal Pains, White Collar, Covert Affairs, Suits and Graceland (USA Network); Top Chef, The Millionaire Matchmaker, Inside the Actors Studio and all three Real Housewives installments (Bravo); Defiance, Warehouse 13, Lost Girl, Being Human, Scare Tactics,Ghost Hunters and WWE SmackDown (Syfy); and E! News, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Fashion Police, The Soup and Chelsea Lately (E!).
Other, more specialized channels stick to content for specific audiences. Children are safe watching Sprout and KidsCo, horror fans can always find thrillers on Chiller, crime and mystery buffs enjoy specials on Cloo, image-conscious men get helpful tips from Esquire Network, hockey fans never miss games with NHL Network, and Cozi TV even airs classic sitcoms and movies from throughout the NBC Universal archives. Internet users can also enjoy exclusive online content from digital networks DailyCandy, Fandango, Village and Television Without Pity.
From breaking news and reality shows to critically acclaimed dramas and long-running comedies, NBC Universal truly offers something for every TV viewer.
